MONDAY 1ST MAY 2023
As the red and yellow flags came down on Tuesday, we’ve signed off on another successful season of patrol on Manly Beach.
Manly LSC had an exceptional patrol season, recording the statistics below:
142 Volunteer patrols
14,300 + volunteer patrol hours
33 Major Rescues
6152 Preventative actions
85 First Aids
The board of the Club thanks all our patrolling members for their vigilance and service to Manly LSC and our local community during the past season. A special thanks to our Patrol Captains for leading patrols on one of the busiest beaches in Australia and the 13th Best Beach in the World (according to Trip Advisor)!
A further thank you to our Deputy President of Lifesaving Tim Cuthbert and Club Captain Bec Crawford for their leadership.
Finally, a huge congratulations to our new SRCs and Bronzies for completing their first season at Manly LSC.
We look forward to seeing you all back on the beach in September 2023.
ANZAC DAY SERVICE
The Club’s directors, members and families had a busy ANZAC Day.
The Day started with the lantern display at dawn outside the Club house to honour the 38 members of Manly LSC and 8 members of Manly Surf Club that lost their lives in WWI and WWII. The tribute was attended by many Club members and members of the public, who took photos, reflected and remembered our lost Club members.
Manly LSC was also represented by directors, Mel Brock and Grant Ellison at the Manly Dam memorial service at 5:30am, where a wreath was laid.
The Club’s Anzac Day service had many beautiful moments of remembrance. Board member, John Platt organised yet another thoughtful and informative service. Rex Morris volunteered as photographer and took some wonderful photos of our members, guests and patrons. An extra special thank you to or guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Jacquie Costello who reflected on her immense experience in the ADF. Club Captains Sophie Stacker and Christopher Kwon represented our Club proudly. Manly others contributed to a special service, including Club members who are currently serving in the ADF: Geoff Costello, Cameron Wise and Sam Judd.
Following the Club service, our President, Victoria O’Halloran attended the Manly cenotaph service and laid a wreath on behalf of the Club.
