If you’re passionate about the ocean, community service and making a real difference then come and join us as a Lifesaver on Patrol at Manly Beach. The entry level qualification is a normally to complete a Bronze Medallion in Surf Lifesaving. It’s not just about gaining surf lifesaving skills though, it’s about having fun, staying physically fit, learning teamwork, camaraderie and the shared experience of working together to save lives in our beautiful corner of the world.

The Bronze Medallion is the minimum requirement for an active surf lifesaver (aged 15 plus). During this course you will learn essential skills in water rescue, first aid and emergency response. All that is required is a threshold level of swim fitness – you need to be able to swim 400m in 9 minutes. Once this has been completed (normally around an open water course at Manly Beach), qualified Manly LSC instructors will provide you with the skills & knowledge you need to become a proficient surf lifesaver and an effective member of a patrol team.
Yes. SLSA offers a range of awards to its members and the community that support our lifesaving objectives.
If you are 13-15 years old you can obtain a Surf Rescue Certificate which is a precursor to the Bronze Medallion. You will learn rescue skills, first aid and patient management, resuscitation, plus, a theoretical component exploring safety knowledge and surf awareness.
Our Nippers program caters to 5-14yr olds and runs every Sunday morning starting in early Oct until early March. Our Nippers learn surf skills, surf awareness, basic CPR and have lots of fun. All Nippers must have a Nipper Parent Member. Head over to our Nippers pages to find out more.
There is also a route to join patrol through First aid qualifications as outlined above.
