Welcome to Patrol at Manly LSC
Our patrolling legacy goes back over a century—keeping the beach safe and fun for everyone. Each season, our dedicated volunteer lifesavers patrol between Manly and South Steyne, helping ensure no lives are lost on our watch. Join us in continuing that proud tradition!
Manly LSC Patrol: Skills, Responsibilities & Support
Annual Skills Maintenance (Proficiency)
All active members, competitive, and patrolling long-service members, and Nipper water safety personnel at Manly LSC must complete annual Skills Maintenance (formerly known as “Proficiency”) at the start of each season.
-
This session refreshes vital lifesaving abilities—including resuscitation, first aid, signalling, and run-swim-run fitness checks.
-
Surf Life Saving Australia mandates proficiency completion by 31 December each season—Manly LSC currently holds several Face-to-Face proficiency sessions (e.g., early Sep, late Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec) alongside required online components
-
Completion is a member’s responsibility. Click HERE for SKILLS MAINTENANCE info
For returning members whose proficiency has lapsed within the past 3–5 years, an In-Depth Proficiency pathway is available to regain status; otherwise, a full Bronze course may be required
Substitute Patrol Coverage
Should you be unavailable for a rostered patrol:
-
You must arrange a substitute of equal or higher qualification via the Members’ Portal, and it remains your responsibility to ensure coverage
Patrol Obligations & Exemptions
Per Manly LSC’s By-Laws:
-
All members entering Club premises are potentially required to undertake patrol duties as instructed by the Club Captain or Patrol Captain
-
Office bearers—including President, Deputy Presidents, Club Captain, Chief Instructor, etc.—are considered to have satisfied their patrol requirements while in-office but may still be expected to meet SLSA competition patrol-hour obligation
-
Members not designated as Long Service, Honorary, or Associate are expected to fulfill their rostered patrols or arrange replacements
Member Protection & Conduct
Aligned with our Constitution’s commitment to a safe, respectful, and caring environment
-
The club, in partnership with SLS NSW and SLSA, maintains a strict Member Protection Policy.
-
All members are required to report any misconduct involving a junior or young adult. Full details and the Code of Conduct (By-Law 13) are available from the Executive Officer or via club communications.
