BRANCH CHAMPIONSHIP
The Branch championship for Opens and Juniors continue this weekend at Palm Beach.
Last weekend the Masters performed admirably in their water events and the Juniors completed part of their programme. The Juniors have to qualify through the Branch competition for many State events now and Manly did particularly well in these qualifiers and will be well represented at State, including 2 teams in the All Age Board Relay (1st and 2nd at Branch) and 1 team in the All Age Beach Relay (1st at Branch). Good luck to all the Manly competitors this weekend. Hopefully there will be no blue-bottles!
EVENTS – THE 2016 COLE CLASSIC
The 2016 Cole Classic was held last weekend with over 3,500 swimmers participating in the 1km, 2km, and 5km events. The feedback from swimmers and Fairfax (the organisers) was very positive but we were a little lucky that the “marine stingers” stayed away and the surf conditions were suitable. No luck was involved in the fantastic efforts made by our volunteers on the day. A big thank you to each and very one of you. Special mention to Event Director, Cam Berkman, who calmly directed operations and has now successfully completed the Big 3,Manly Carnival, Nipper Nats and Cole Classic. Well done and thank you Cam. But enough is enough and we have decided to cancel our Manly Swim scheduled for Saturday 20 February.
ON THE BEACH
The beach has been particularly busy this season and the patrols continue performing vigilantly. The Lifeguards have been complementary about the efforts Patrols are making on more than one occasion. Well done Patrols. We do not patrol to win awards but Patrol 8, lead by Bec Crawford, was awarded Branch Rescue of the Month for December for their rescue of a man near the pipe on 27 December. The man recovered fully after a few days in hospital thanks to our efforts.
SPONSORS
Sponsors are very important to our Club. A full list of our Sponsors follows in this newsletter and I encourage you to support them. If you are aware of a potential sponsor please do not hesitate to contact me.
Solar D Sunscreen is our newest sponsor.
Tubes of Solar D Sunscreen are available for purchase at the Club, $10 per tube which is well below the retail price. Solar D sunscreen is designed to let some of the UVB light that your body uses to naturally produce Vitamin D whilst also screening out the harmful rays. Solar D is silky smooth to apply, is quickly absorbed into the skin and leaves no greasy residue on the skin or stickiness. Welcome to Solar D, our new sponsor and I encourage you to support them.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
How can you help around the Club?
Firstly, it is everyone’s responsibility to keep the Club tidy. It is amazing the amount of rubbish that is left in the hall and training rooms. Please take your rubbish with you.
Secondly, We would like to say thank you to Geraldine Clarke and Lynda Warner and all the other volunteers running the shop at every events .
We are putting together a roster of volunteers to sell Club merchandise on the weekends. If you could spend a few hours every now and then for this important fund raising activity, please contact Camille De Carmejane in the office (0450112910).
Finally, if you are visiting Western Australia in April or May this year I encourage you to visit the Fremantle Arts Centre (FAC). The exhibition called “Frontier Surfing” features, as one of the main exhibits, a 1960 surf board, designed by Dick Brewer, from our Club’s surf museum. The Curator from FAC contacted Ray Moran and has paid to have our board shipped east to west and back.
See you on the beach
