BUSY DAY FOR PATROL 9

Last weekend Patrol 9 carried out vital first aid to a lady suffering chest pains at Shelley beach. A member from the public (Kate), a former SLSA educator, tried to reach to SurfCom via the public Emergency Beacon at Shelley Beach. Kate left a voicemail on the SurfCom channel, but felt that she needed to do more. Kate ran to Manly beach and asked Patrol 9 to assist. Manly Patrol jumped into action after alerting the Council Lifeguards.

The Lifeguard rode his bike to Shelley with a mini oxygen kit to assist the patient. Manly Patrol also sent the IRB to Shelly loaded with first aid equipment. Both Manly patrol and the Lifeguards assisted the patient until the ambulance arrived. A great team effort.

CLUB REBUILD UPDATE

Over the past few weeks, the President and Building Committee have arranged guided tours of the new surf clubs at Mona Vale, Long Reef, Avalon and Queenscliff to gather ideas for our new club. Those clubs have march larger sites compared to Manly LSC,  but has been important for the Building Committee to see how they have used their space for lifesaving, member amenities, memorabilia, craft storage, training, functions and revenue generation.

We are in the process of finalising the date for a meeting of club members with the Council and Architects, Terroir. Stay tuned so that you can meet the people putting together the very early concept plans.

We have also added a dedicated rebuild page to our website – https://manlylsc.com/club-rebuild/

GOOD LUCK TO OUR NEW BRONZIES

This weekend our current squad of Bronze candidates will sit their assessment. We wish everyone the best of luck and can’t wait to see you all on patrol for the last few weeks of the season. A special thank you to our incredible trainers, Tim Cuthbert, Leoni Graham, Jules Clarkson and Lauren Costello for their ongoing service to education at our Club.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AND LIFE MEMBERSHIP NOMINATIONS STILL OPEN

The Honours committee of Manly LSC is calling for nominations for the Distinguished Service Award. Life Member nominations have now closed. Any nomination should be sent to the Secretary at Secretary@manlylsc.com  by 24th March, 2023.

Nominations should contain club history of nominated member and reasons supporting the nomination that satisfy the relevant criteria.

The criteria for these awards is set out in the Constitution https://manlylsc.com/constitution/  and summarised below:

Distinguished Service Award

A Distinguished Service Award may be awarded to a member who has given extraordinary service to the Manly LSC or by virtue of a Meritorious rescue performed by the member/s. Members can be awarded more than one Distinguished Service Award if they continue to perform extraordinary service over a long period. Normally a Club Life Member would not be awarded this Award, as Life Membership is the highest Club honour, however, if a member who has been awarded a Life Membership and continues to perform an extraordinary service to the Club, the Club may present this award.

THE COUNTDOWN TO AUSSIES IN ON

The Australian Titles are this year being held in Western Australia at Scarborough and Trigg beaches. The manly LSC craft trailer will be leaving to cross the Nullabor this Saturday morning, with most of our competitors leaving next weekend. There is a big touring team competing from Manly across our Youth, Opens and Masters divisions. Good Luck Team Manly.
