BRONZE MEDALLION
to commence training for the Bronze Medallion you must:
- Be a financial member of an SLS club;
- Be at least 15 years of age on the final assessment date;
- Complete an unaided swim of 400 m in 9 minutes or less (goggles and masks permitted) in a swimming pool of not less than 25 m, or over a measured open water course which will be observed prior to you undertaking any water training or assessment activities. Evidence of this must be provided to the assessor prior to commencement of the assessment for this qualification/SLSA award.
You will also need an everyday standard of language, literacy and numeracy skills to be able to:
- Follow written, verbal and visual instructions;
- Read and interpret a range of signs and symbols;
- Read and interpret written information;
- Make basic mathematical calculations to carry out everyday activities;
- Keep accurate written records.
SURF RESCUE CERTIFICATE (SRC)
To commence training for the Surf Rescue Certificate you must:
- Be a financial member of an SLS club;
- Be at least 13 years of age on the final assessment date;
- Complete an unaided swim of 200 m in 5 minutes or less (goggles and masks permitted) in a swimming pool of not less than 25 m, or over a measured open water course which will be observed prior to you undertaking any water training or assessment activities. Evidence of this must be provided to the assessor prior to commencement of the assessment for these units of competency/this SLSA award.
You will also need an everyday standard of language, literacy and numeracy skills to be able to:

SRC TO BRONZE
Prerequisites

SILVER MEDALLION BEACH MANAGEMENT
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience required to manage a beach and a team in emergency and non-emergency situations. The course is aimed at people wishing to be Patrol Captains, Lifeguards and Lifeguard Supervisors.
Prerequisites
- Hold Current Bronze Medallion
Requirements
Be proficient in ONE of the following:
- First Aid
- Radio Operator
- Advanced Resuscitation Techniques
- Spinal Management
SILVER MEDALLION (INFLATABLE RESCUE BOAT DRIVER) CERTIFICATE
Prerequisites
- Bronze Medallion
- IRB Crew Certificate
By the end of this course, you will be able to: Understand the roles and responsibilities of an IRB Driver, including:
- List the duties of an IRB Driver
- List the safety considerations when operating an IRB
- Provide direction to an IRB Crewperson in all their operational duties
- Communicate effectively with Crewperson, the public and patients in the normal performance of duties
